The university will provide furniture for the dorm rooms. Freshman cadets are not allowed to bring any additional furniture items. See the packing list for desirable and not-authorized items.

Yes.  Footlockers are highly recommended for all cadets.  The footlocker should be sturdy and securable (cadets will be responsible for providing a combination and/or key lock), and, because of limited space in the dorm rooms, of reasonable size.  A typical standard size footlocker is approximately 16”x16”x30”.  The footlocker should not be higher than 17 inches to allow it to fit under the bed in your Corps dorm room.  Footlockers may be purchased through sources such as CC Creations (in College Station), Wal-Mart, Target, Academy, or Army/Navy surplus stores.  The footlocker can be any color, except burnt orange.

Yes to both.  The maximum size for computer monitors to fit on the desks in the cadet dorm rooms is 30.75” wide, 21” tall, 37” diagonal, and 13” deep.  3D printers are not authorized. Cadets have access to computer labs in each LLC and across campus. Students receive a print allocation every semester to cover printing costs. Read more at it.tamu.edu/OAL

The dorms are open for visitors every weekend during specified hours. Hours are posted on dorm doors.

No.  The university will only assume limited responsibility under certain conditions.  Cadets are urged to insure their personal belongings. Cadets are strongly encouraged to lock their door when not present and to keep valuables in a lock box or locked footlocker.

Generally, cadets wear their uniforms in all campus buildings except residence halls and the recreation center. Uniforms are not required at the RELLIS campus for TEAM/TEAB cadets. During evening study time, cadets may wear civilian attire in the library and some other specified locations across campus. Cadets are not required to wear their uniforms during their free time or when they go off campus.

Each cadet is responsible for the dry cleaning of his/her uniforms.  Cadet uniforms must be dry cleaned. Dry cleaning services are available off campus at numerous local businesses. Machine washing will damage the uniforms. The OCP (camo) uniforms do not need dry cleaning.

There are laundry facilities located in all Corps dorms.  There is no cost to use a washing or drying unit as it is included in the cadets’ housing fees for each semester.  Cadets must furnish their own laundry supplies.

Cadets live in gender-integrated dorms.  All cadets must walk through the hallway from their room to the restrooms located in the residence hall. Cadets wear their robes (with shorts or underwear underneath) in the hall when they go to take a shower so that they won’t have to go fully dressed.  Robes must be at least mid-thigh length but maybe longer.  Robes must be white.  Cadets are allowed to have their last name only embroidered on the outside of their robe. The CCA will have robes available for purchase in the CCA store inside the Corps Center. There are a limited number of robes available for purchase on a first-come, first-served basis.

In general, the Corps follows the military services’ guidelines regarding the wearing of religious items in uniform.  Specifically, religious items and headgear can be worn as long as the item is completely covered by the uniform and/or does not detract/interfere with the wearing of the cadet uniform, to include the uniform headgear. Additional items or grooming exceptions will be evaluated on a case by case basis by the Commandant only after an exception to uniform regulations has been submitted by the cadet.

The Corps adheres to the military service regulations regarding tattoos and body piercings.  Except for the wearing of earrings by female cadets, the wearing of any body piercing jewelry while in uniform is forbidden.

Cadet Onboarding encompasses the Freshman Orientation Week experience. This orientation period educates freshman cadets on the academic and personal resources available to them, the standards they will be expected to meet as cadets and their responsibility of upholding Texas A&M’s time honored traditions. Cadet advisors, known as cadre, train and acclimate new cadets into the Corps lifestyle and academic standards.

Yes.  The Corps conducts Evening Study Time (EST) Sunday through Thursday nights beginning after supper and lasting until morning.  An appropriate study environment is maintained in the dorm during this time.  Quiet Hour conditions in the dormitory hallways, rooms, as well as on the Quad, are in effect for all cadets.  EST provides cadets an opportunity to study when and where they desire (within reason) to achieve the best personal results possible. Cadets have the Academic Day (7:30 am – 4:30 pm) to focus on classes.

The Commandant’s staff includes full-time Scholastic Performance Specialists that provide a wide variety of academic support to all cadets.  Computer labs and study rooms are available for cadets in the Leadership Learning Centers.  The Commandant provides additional academic support (tutoring, supplemental instruction and test reviews) in a variety of subjects at no cost to the cadets. Cadets are also available to use university resources including the Math Learning Center and the Academic Success Center.

All members of the Corps are required to purchase a meal plan. Freshman cadets must select the all-access meal plan. For more information, visit Dine on Campus.

Hazing is a violation of state law, university policy, and Corps policy.  The Corps conducts formal training every semester on student rules to ensure every cadet understands what is allowed and not allowed as a student and cadet at Texas A&M.  The Commandant will not tolerate hazing in the Corps of Cadets.

The Commandant’s staff does not recommend cadets pursue employment until they have adjusted to the college level requirements and their academic responsibilities.

Cadets may carry their books in a black briefcase, black backpack, or black book bag.

Yes, but a car is not a necessity.  A&M has a very good, campus wide, bus transportation system available to all students.  Bus transportation is also available to some off-campus destinations and shopping areas.  To park on campus a vehicle parking permit must be purchased through Transportation Services.  Registration for on-campus parking is now open through July 8th. When registering, members of the Corps should select “student living on campus” and then “Southside Halls”. Yes, the Corps attends all home football games which requires the purchase of a 12th Man Sports Pass. More information can be found at https://12thmanfoundation.com/tickets/student-tickets/index.html  

Members of the Fightin’ Texas Aggie Band do not need to purchase a sports pass.

We recommend cadets rent a post office box while on campus for their New Student Conference. Rental procedures, pricing and additional information can be found here www.baurservicesinc.com or by calling (979) 458-2692. Cadets are not able to receive mail or deliveries in their dorm room.
