James McKenna ’20

July 23, 2021 by amy.thompson

Back

James McKenna is a senior from Annapolis, Maryland, and is the son of Michael and Christine McKenna. While applying for a Navy ROTC Scholarship with the United States Marine Corps, James had the opportunity to visit Texas A&M and spend the night with the Corps of Cadets – an event that convinced him to attend Texas A&M and join the Corps.

James has held several noteworthy positions during his time in the Corps. These positions include Guidon Bearer of Company C-2 his sophomore year and Sergeant Major of Second Regiment his junior year. He now serves as Second Regiment’s Commander, overseeing approximately 200 cadets in his Major Unit. Outside of his Corps and academic career, James enjoys working as a student worker for the Board of Regents, reading, running, and other outdoor activities to include viticulture.

During the summer of 2018, James studied abroad for a 10-week program in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, where he studied the Russian language and Kyrgyz history. Last summer he graduated from Marine Corps Officer Candidate School in Quantico, VA.  James will graduate in May, commission as a 2ndLieutenant in the United States Marine Corps and attend The Basic School in Quantico, VA.

James is an outstanding cadet and is going to make a superb Marine officer. We wish him the best of luck in all of his future endeavors. Semper Fi! James!
