James Bovenkerk ’19

James Bovenkerk ’19 is a Civil Engineering major from Rockwall, Texas. He was originally born in Lakenheath, England to parents Jim and Jody Bovenkerk, and has a younger sister named Jennifer.

James spent his fish through junior years as a member of Squadron 16, and now serves as the Commanding Officer of Squadron 6. He is a Squadron Commander in Air Force ROTC and a member of the Tree Platoon of the Ross Volunteer Company.

James was selected to attend the Corps International Excursion to Australia during Summer 2018. Furthermore, he has represented the Corps of Cadets at conferences at Virginia Military Institute in Lexington, Virginia and at the United Nations in Bangkok, Thailand. He has also completed classes abroad with the Zachry Department of Civil Engineering in Trieste, Italy, where he studied Systems Engineering and Project Management. He is currently training for the Bryan-College Station marathon in December 2018.

Upon graduation, James will commission in the U.S. Air Force, where he hopes to become a pilot. His favorite thing about the Corps is being surrounded by people that like to challenge themselves and pursue goals. As a senior, he hopes to instill that same attitude in the other cadets in his unit. We wish James all the best in the future and know he will make us proud!
