Dr. Richard A. Box ’61

Richard Box graduated from Texas A&M in 1961 where he received his bachelor’s degree in zoology. While in the Corps, he was a member of H-2 and served on 2nd Brigade staff. He graduated from the University of Texas School of Dentistry in Houston in 1966 and served in Vietnam as an Army dentist with the 173rd Airborne Brigade. Dr. Box practices dentistry in Austin and is a Fellow in the American College of Dentists. He is a lifetime member of the National Guard Association of Texas, the 173rd Airborne Brigade Association, the Infantry’s Order of St. Maurice, and a lifetime member of the Texas A&M Letterman’s Association. As a Major General he commanded the State Guard of the Texas Adjutant General’s Department where, upon retirement, he was brevetted a Lieutenant General in the National Guard of Texas by Governor Rick Perry ’72. In December 2008, Governor Perry appointed Dr. Box to the Texas A&M University System Board of Regents, and he was made chairman of the Board in 2011. Box has been a longtime member of the Texas Aggie Corps of Cadets Association.
