Christopher Hernandez ’19

Back

Christopher Hernandez is a Political Science and German double major from El Paso, Texas. He currently serves as the Major Unit Commander for Second Regiment.

Originally from N-1, he served as a fire team leader his sophomore year and continued to move up in leadership. His junior year he was Sergeant Major of Second Regiment.  Chris is also a member of the Corps of Cadets Marksmanship Unit (CCMU) where he competes at a very high level. He has shot in 3-gun competitions, run and guns, and other pistol competitions.

He also has a great passion for travel. During his freshman year, he had the opportunity to study abroad through a reciprocal exchange program at Helmut Schmidt University in Germany. He also participated in a Corps excursion to Asia.

“Traveling in China and being ‘the foreigner’ was transformative”, Chris said. “It made me aware of my status as an American on the world stage. I learned that humans have the same motives and emotions across the world, but the challenge is decrypting how individuals express themselves and then bringing them together.”

Chris will graduate in May and commission as a 2nd Lieutenant in the United States Marine Corps. Chris’ dedication to leadership and his eagerness to be involved will certainly shine through during his career in the Marines. He has been an outstanding cadet and a great representative of this university. We wish Chris nothing but the very best of success in all of his future endeavors! Truly one of our very best!
