Residence Life Email Sent to All Students Currently Residing on Campus (sent on 4.22.20)

From:               Housing@tamu.edu

Subject:            Action Required: Deadline for Move Out Completion is May 9th

Howdy!

We hope the last few weeks of classes have been going well, and you are adjusting well to online delivery of classes and social activities.

Our records indicate that you are currently living on-campus, or may still have belongings in your spring assignment that you have not removed.  We know some of you are out of town and returning to pick up your belongings will be difficult.  We also know that some of you may not be able to return home immediately.  To that end, we have provided many options for you to choose from to clear your room/apartment, including a cost-effective summer housing option and a moving company we have worked with that is willing to provide discounted packing, moving and storage prices.

As a reminder, students living in the residence halls, the Corps dorms and White Creek Apartments must be moved out by May 9.  Students attending classes at Blinn must be moved out by May 15. As an additional reminder, the Brazos County shelter in place order and travel restrictions have been rescinded, however, Governor Abbott’s orders remain in effect (slated to expire on April 30). Under these orders, you ARE ALLOWED to return to campus to collect your belongings without violating the orders. We anticipate more direction from the state during the week of April 27.

At this time, we need to know your move-out intentions so we can appropriately prepare to assist you during the May 2020 move-out process.  To let us know your intentions, we need for you to go to https://oncampusaggies.tamu.edu/StarRezPortalX and fill out the form named “May 2020 Move-Out” (displayed as a tab at the top of the screen after logging-in).  When you get to this form, you will be given 6 move-out options to choose from.  Several of these options address the move-out concerns that have been expressed to the Department of Residence Life.

Your move-out options are as follows:

  1. I have already removed all of my belongings and moved out
  2. I will remove my belongings and move out by the end of my contract term
  3. A friend or relative will remove my belongings and move me out by the end of my contract term
  4. I will hire a moving company to pack and remove my belongings (by the end of my contract term)
  5. I want the Department of Residence Life to donate my usable belongings to charity, and dispose of my unusable belongings
  6. I need to continue living on-campus and understand I will need to move to White Creek Apartments by the end of my contract term

More detailed information about the move-out options listed above (including information about summer housing and the discounted pricing available from one moving company in town) are found on the form named “May 2020 Move-Out” at https://oncampusaggies.tamu.edu/StarRezPortalX

You must go to this form, pick one of these options, and submit the form electronically by May 7.  If you fail to submit this form, and your belongings are still in your spring assignment at the end of your contract term, the Department of Residence Life will treat your belongings as abandoned property.  Abandoned property will be disposed of per University guidelines.  There will be a charge to the student for removing the abandoned property.

If you have concerns or questions about this email, please contact me at carolb@reslife.tamu.edu

Thanks for your continued patience as we all navigate these unprecedented times.

  • May 15 – Students living in the residence halls, the Corps dorms and White Creek Apartments, but attending classes at Blinn

For the May 2020 move-out, you have 6 move-out options to choose from.

As a reminder, the Brazos County shelter in place order and travel restrictions have been rescinded, however, Governor Abbott’s orders remain in effect (slated to expire on April 30). Under these orders, you ARE ALLOWED to return to campus to collect your belongings without violating the orders. We anticipate more direction from the state during the week of April 27.

Option 1: If you have already moved out and removed your belongings, please make sure you have returned your key and requested a refund or credit. More information about this process will be given if you select this option.

Option 2: If you are choosing to remove your own belongings, please make sure to return your key and properly check out of your hall/apartment.  More information about this process will be given if you select this option.

Option 3:  If you choose to have a friend or relative pack up and remove your belongings, you are responsible for providing to the Department of Residence Life a contact name and contact phone number for who will be physically on-campus to remove your belongings.  The Department of Residence Life will only allow limited time access to your room and belongings based on the information you provide.  However, the friend or relative you provide to us must still provide a Photo ID (matching the name you provided) to Department of Residence Life staff to be granted limited time access to your room and belongings.

The Department of Residence Life is not responsible for any missing items or damages caused by your friend or relative.

Only the person you provide will be allowed to enter your room and move your belongings, so be sure to provide detailed information so we can clearly identify the person.

Option 4:  If you choose to hire a moving company to pack up and remove your belongings, you are responsible for providing to the Department of Residence Life a company contact name and company contact phone number for who will be physically on-campus to remove your belongings.  The Department of Residence Life will only allow limited time access to your room and belongings based on the information you provide.  However, the moving company employees must still provide a Photo ID (proving they work for the company) and a packing/moving/storing contract (with your name on it) to Department of Residence Life staff to be granted limited time access to your room and belongings.

The Department of Residence Life is not responsible for any missing items or damages caused by the moving company you have hired.

Only the employees of the moving company you provide to us will be allowed to enter your room and move your belongings, so be sure to provide detailed information so we can clearly identify the employees and company.

You may hire any moving company of your choice.  However, to make your search for a moving company easier, the Department of Residence Life has negotiated discounted price for packing, moving and storage with Crossroads Moving & Storage.  If you choose to contact this company and hire them to pack, remove and store your belongings, you must still sign a contract with Crossroads Moving & Storage directly for the packing, moving and storage.  The Department of Residence Life is NOT CONTRACTING FOR THIS SERVICE on your behalf.  The website for Crossroads Moving & Storage is http://www.crossroadsmovingandstorage.com/  The price that has been negotiated by the Department of Residence Life is $150 for packing (includes all boxes and materials), $200 for moving, and $50 per month for storage (shared storage unit).  This price does not include moving back to campus in the Fall.  Please tell them you live on-campus at TAMU and ask for this pricing when you call to contract with them for the packing, moving and storing services.

Option 5:  If you want the Department of Residence Life to donate and/or dispose of your belongings, there will be a charge for this service equal to the number of hours it takes staff to pack and remove your belongings.  The charge will be assessed at $25/hour/staff member.  The Department of Residence Life will have the sole discretion to determine what to dispose of and what to donate to charity.  If your roommate(s) still have belongings in the room/apartment you share, it is your responsibility to talk with them, decide who owns what belongings, and make sure they remove their belongings, as anything left in the room/apartment at the end of the contract term will be packed up and disposed or donated.

Option 6:  If you cannot return home and need to continue living on-campus this summer, you will need to apply for summer school housing, sign a summer school housing contract, pack up your belongings and move to White Creek Apartments by the end of your Spring 2020 contract term.  There will not be any penalties for canceling your summer school housing contract early if you are able to leave before the end of the summer.  More information about summer school housing can be found here https://reslife.tamu.edu/apply/procedures/summer/ and also here https://oncampusaggies.tamu.edu/StarRezPortalX after clicking on the “ResHall Summer Application” link.

Students must fill out this form and tell us their move-out intentions for Spring 2020 by May 7, 2020.

If you fail to submit this form, and your belongings are still in your spring assignment at the end your contract term, the Department of Residence Life will treat your belongings as abandoned property.  Abandoned property will be disposed of per University guidelines.  There will be a charge to the student for removing the abandoned property.
