Marisa Howat ’16 is a Nursing major with a Business minor from Merritt Island, Florida and is the daughter of Michelle Leathers and Scott Howat. She is currently serving as the Commanding Officer of Company G-2 for the 2015-2016 school year.

Active within the Corps, Marisa started as a fish in Squadron 21, and served as their Squad Leader and Public Relations Corporal her sophomore year. At the end of Marisa’s sophomore year, she was given the unique opportunity to become a leader in a newly reactivated outfit, Company G-2, where she served as the Discipline and IG Sergeant her junior year.

In 2013, Marisa participated in the Corps Global Excursion trip to Chile, and is currently on staff for the Nichols’ Rising Leaders Conference.

Outside the Corps, Marisa is a member of the Maroon Coats for the Texas A&M Foundation. In May 2012, Marisa had the opportunity to travel to Escuela de Oficiales de Panama CES, which is the military school in Panama, for a mission trip with Cru Valor. She has also been involved with Project Sunshine, an organization that organizes events for children with disabilities, MSC LEAD, a sophomore leadership organization, and Class Councils, which organizes Ring Dance, Maroon Out, and E-Walk.

Marisa will graduate from the Health Science Center in May 2017 and hopes to commission into the United States Navy Nursing Corps.

Marisa is a superb cadet and student who has always shown a dedication to hard work and leadership in every role in which she has served. She leads by example in all that she does, and inspires others to follow her lead and exceed the standard in all that they do. I know she will continue her dedication to excellence and exceptional leadership as a nurse in the United States Navy upon graduation. We are all very proud of Marisa and know that she is going to be a success in all that she does in the future. Truly one of our very best!
