The second phase includes further additions and upgrades to support our growing Corps – has been approved in concept by the university administration. This next phase consists of the addition of two more LLCs, new dorms for the Aggie Band that would increase capacity from 2,600-bed spaces to 3,000 for the Corps, a multi-purpose center that would include a variety of services for cadets, a fully-renovated two-story Duncan Dining Center, and a renovated Trigon. Although not yet funded, we are excited about the plans to further improve the 21st-century living-learning environment that the Quad and surrounding areas have become for our cadets!
Construction is proceeding on schedule for the new John White-Bob Walker Music Activities Center (MAC), located on Duncan Field at George Bush and Coke Street. The MAC will replace the Adams Band Building and become the home for the Aggie Band and all of the university’s bands, symphonies, orchestras, and vocal music groups. A new artificial turf drill field for the Aggie Band will also be installed on the north side of the MAC. The facility is on track for completion prior to the start of the 2019-2020 school year. We are excited about this long overdue facility for our music programs, and look forward to seeing the Aggie Band rehearsing in the new MAC rehearsal hall, and marching on the new turf drill field adjacent to the MAC!
The Corps of Cadets Athletic Training Room (ATR) opened at the start of the 2017-18 school year. This essential, new, state of the art facility, exclusively for use by our cadets, was constructed in the old mail and laundry room space across the breezeway from the Adams Band Hall (nearly 3,000 square feet), and is designed to help rehabilitate cadets injured throughout the year. The ATR is open daily and run by a highly skilled team from CHI St. Joseph Health, including an orthopedic surgeon and a group of certified athletic trainers. Cadets are able to visit the ATR at no charge for injury diagnosis, treatment, rehabilitation, and prevention. The Corps of Cadets ATR is helping keep our cadets healthy and performing at a high level.
The Military Property Warehouse has been completely renovated and renamed the Uniform Distribution Center (UDC). The renovation has allowed us to implement a more efficient uniform issue process, developed in partnership with the Mays Business School. It’s a first-class facility that is now fully designed to streamline operations and make the uniform issue and turn-in process more effective and more efficient. We are excited about the renovations, and look forward to seeing it in full operation in its new configuration this school year!
