Colonel Harvey James Haas 1959
Colonel Harvey Haas received his Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering from Texas A&M. He graduated as a Distinguished Military Student and was one of the few in his class who received a regular commission in the United States Air Force.
Two of the highlights of distinguished military career were assignments to ROTC staffs, one at Texas A&M, as the Assistant Professor of Aerospace Studies, and the other at Louisiana State University, as the Professor of Aerospace Studies. In both of these assignments, Colonel Haas led by example and mentored students in the virtues and values of a military career.
His personal awards include the Bronze Star, Legion of Merit, four Meritorious Service Medals, six Air Force Outstanding Unit Awards, one with the Valor device and selection as the PTA Teacher of the Year of Canyon Middle School in 1991. Retiring from the Air Force in 1985, he continued to teach and mentor students as a math teacher in a middle school and later became a successful home builder.
In addition to funding two Sul Ross Scholarships, Colonel Haas remains active with Texas A&M and Corps of Cadets activities. He is a charter member of the Century Club of The Association of Former Students and has served as a Muster speaker. Colonel Haas brings high school students to home football games every year so they can experience the Aggie Spirit.
